Year Four

Welcome to Year 4

Class Teacher: Mrs Welland

Teaching Assistants: Miss Doyle

When your child starts in a new year group, there are often lots of questions that you have. We hope that this information will help you and your child to adjust to any changes.  Staff are always available at the end of the school day if you have any questions or queries.

The children come straight into class after the gate opens at 8.45.

Curriculum
You can download the Year 3 Curriculum Map at the bottom of the page.

It would be helpful if the children could have access to a range of information sources to support their learning. If you have any relevant books, materials or particular expertise which could enhance our studies and displays, we would be most grateful.

Please ensure that any objects brought into school are clearly named. We will, of course, take great care of anything sent in.

Reading
In addition to the set homework, it is still important that your child reads at home on a regular basis. You can support your child by hearing them read aloud and by asking them questions about the text to develop their comprehension skills. Children need to ensure that their reading book and reading log bookmark is in school every day and their reading journal should be in school every Thursday.  The reading log bookmark should be filled in by you and your child at least four times a week.

Library
In Year 4, children may borrow a book from the school library. They will have the opportunity to change books regularly.

Physical Education
Children should come to school wearing their PE kits on Monday and Tuesday.

Home Learning
Over the course of a half term, the children are expected to complete their Reading Journals.  The expectation in Year 4 is that the children will complete at least two good quality activities.

All children have access to Times Tables Rock Stars. The expectation is that they will complete at least 30 minutes each week at home. If this amount of time is not completed, then children will be required to complete this on Thursday lunchtime.

In addition to this, children may be set home learning linked to topic areas.

Water Bottles
Throughout the school, children are asked to bring in a named bottle of water each day, which they can drink from in the classroom. These should be sports style bottles rather than screw top bottles. The children will store the bottles in their smart sacks so please ensure that they are not too big. The children will have plenty of opportunities to refill bottles in the classroom.

Pencil Cases
Children are provided with a pencil case containing all the items they will need, so there is no need for children to bring in stationery items from home.

Named Clothing
Please can you ensure that all your child’s uniform is named. Obviously most of the uniform looks very similar, so it is hard to return items if there are no visible names!
