Foundation Stage

Welcome to Foundation Stage

Teacher: Miss C Harris

Teaching Assistants:  Mrs T Greenaway & Mrs R Williams

We hope that you will find the following information helpful.  If you do have any questions or queries staff are available at the beginning and end of the school day to help.

Topics
The topics we will be covering this year are:

Autumn Spring Summer
Marvellous Me Traditional Tales Mini-beasts
People who help us Teddy Bears Travelling and Journeys

For more information, please see the curriculum map at the bottom of the page

Each term we hope to either go on a trip or have a visitor come to the class. We will also go on seasonal walks in the local woods and around the local environment during the year.

This week we are learning about ...
Each week, we will display a notice in the classroom window that will give you a basic overview of the week’s activities. We hope this will help parents and carers to talk with the children about what they have been doing. There will also be an ‘other notices’ sign that will detail any specific requests or information.

Phonics and Reading
In September, the children will start working on their letter sounds and will bring home booklets to help them practise.  The phonics scheme that we use in school is Rocket Phonics. Children will also bring home a wordless book, which has a guide for parents on how to use the books. Once they are confident with the letter sounds, they will start bringing home a reading book with words. Each week, your child will also have the opportunity to choose a library book.

In the meantime, sharing any books with your child is invaluable. Children really enjoy picture books, telling you the story from the pictures, as well as looking at non-fiction books.

Snacks
The children will be offered a piece of fruit or vegetable snack and a drink of milk each day at morning snack time. If your child would prefer water please let us know.
We would also like to make you aware that some children are allergic to nuts and ask you to avoid giving your child products such as peanut butter and Nutella if they are bringing sandwiches, or any other nut related product.

Water bottles
Throughout the school, children are asked to bring in a named bottle of water each day, which they can drink from in the classroom. These should be sports style bottles rather than screw top bottles. There will be a crate in the classroom for these to be put in each day.

Named Clothing
Please ensure that all your child’s uniform is named. Obviously most of the uniform looks very similar, so it is hard to return items if there are no visible names! Please also ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school on Monday each week.

Outside Clothing
As some of the curriculum is outside all year round, please ensure that your child has a named, warm, waterproof coat in school each day. As the weather gets colder, they will also need a named hat and gloves in school.
During hot weather, a sunhat is advisable.

Book bags
The children should bring their book bag to school each day, as there are regularly letters to send home and reading books to check, as well as their daily art work and other endeavours! Book bags will be kept in your child's tray in the classroom. Book bags can be purchased from the school office.

Parents Helpers
We are always very pleased to welcome you into the classroom to help. If you can spare a little time, please speak to the class teacher.

Resources
If you have any resources you think we could use in the classroom (for example resources we can recycle such as old birthday cards , junk modelling boxes or dressing up clothes), please let us know. Please keep an eye on the classroom notice window for any specific requests.
