What is the role of the Governing Body?

Welcome to the Governing Body Page

The role of the Governing Body is a vital part of school life in making sure that every child gets the best possible education.

Here at Loudwater Combined School the Governing Body works closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure that we promote high standards of educational achievement at the school for all children.

The work of the Governing Body focuses on three core strategic functions:

  1.        Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  2.        Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its            pupils, and the performance management of staff.
  3.        Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

To ensure that we focus on our strategic responsibilities all members of the Governing Body have to undertake four areas of Induction Training to ensure that they fully understand their roles and responsibilities.

We also gain knowledge of how the school works through class visits that have clear areas of focus. At least termly meetings take place with subject leaders in areas of Special Educational Needs, Literacy, Numeracy, Sport Premium Funding and Pupil Premium. Focus reports are completed for the termly meetings and class visits. We hold regular committee meetings and look at the data from the school and compare this against national and local figures. At all times we look to give the best opportunities to all of the children here at Loudwater.

We have four committees that Governors operate in and all meet at least once every term;

  •          Raising Achievement Committee, which focuses on progress and achievement, the quality of            teaching, behaviour & safety and leadership & management
  •          Full Board, which focuses on all aspects of the school and its current priorities.
  •          Curriculum & Admissions Committee, which focuses on attendance, areas linked to the                    curriculum and admissions.
  •          Finance Personnel & Premise Committees, which focuses on the budget, personnel matters              the premises and health & safety.

Minutes are available from these meetings on request from the school office, office@loudwater.bucks.sch.uk
