Value of the month

These are the values and inspirational people for 2023-24

September 

Our value of the month for September is pride.  During assemblies, we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • What difference will it make if we take pride in our learning?
  • How can we take pride in our school environment?
  • Why is it important to take pride in our appearance?
  • Which of your achievements this month are you most proud of?

October

Our value of the month for October is Equality.  We will be learning more about this topic in assemblies through stories and our questions of the week, which are:

  • Why should we treat everyone fairly?
  • Why do some people treat others unfairly?
  • How could we make the world a fairer place?

Our inspirational person for this month is Nelson Mandela.  We will be finding out more about his life and about how he achieved greater equality for those living in South Africa.

November

Our value of the month for November is respect.  During assemblies, we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • Who do you respect and why?
  • Why is it important not to make quick judgements about others?
  • How can we show respect for older people?
  • Why do we need to have rules?

December

Our value of the month for December is contentment.  During assemblies, we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • What does being content mean to you?
  • How brilliant is your life?
  • What could you do to make someone’s day even better?

January

Our value of the month for January is honesty.  During assemblies, we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • Why is it important to be honest?
  • What if people stopped being honest?
  • Which rules are important in your life?
  • How does our honesty make others able to trust us?

February

Our value of the month for February is Love.  During assemblies, we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • What does love mean to you?
  • What if we were not loved?
  • How could you show someone your love for them?

March

Our value of the month for March will be Forgiveness.  During assemblies, we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • What is the value of true friendship?
  • What can we do to mend a broken friendship?
  • Why is it bet to try and forgive quickly?
  • How does forgiveness link with our other values?

Our inspirational person this month is Malala Yousufzai.  We will be exploring her life and how she has been a champion for ensuring that all children can attend school and the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.  More about her life can be found out on the following websites:

April

Our value of the month for April will be Perseverance.  During assemblies and class discussion time we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • How will you achieve your goals?
  • How can we become more resilient?
  • How can we help and support each other to succeed?

May

Our value of the month for May is Trust.  During assemblies and class discussion time we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • Who can you trust?
  • What happens if you lose someone’s trust?
  • How does trust link with religious ideas and beliefs?

June

Our value of the month for June will be Self-belief.  During assemblies we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • What skills do you have?
  • What is your ambition?
  • What are the qualities you would like to develop?
  • How could you encourage others to have more self-belief?

Our inspirational person for this month is Thomas Edison.  We will be exploring his career as an inventor and businessman.  He had great self-belief and resilience.  He famously said, ‘I have not failed, I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.’  He did achieve success and is credited with many inventions linked to sound and the use of electricity.

July

Our value of the month for July will be Friendship.  During assemblies and class discussion time we will be exploring the following questions and ideas:

  • What makes a good friend?
  • What would you do for your friend?
